Recording guide: start, stop and review your dictation

Start with a short recording, wait for the finished transcript and review it before sharing. VoicePad processes speech on your device.

Prepare your recording

  1. Open VoicePad and allow microphone access.
  2. Select the language you will speak. The documented dictation languages are English and German.
  3. Check that your chosen speech model is ready.
  4. Position the microphone close enough to capture your voice clearly.

Start and stop

Tap the main mic orb, speak at your normal pace, then tap it again to stop. On Windows, you can also use the recording shortcut while VoicePad is running. Check the shortcut shown by your installed build.

Where supported, the floating Orb and voice commands provide other ways to control recording. Their setup differs by platform.

Wait for the result

Text can appear as completed chunks are processed. After stopping, allow the final processing to finish. Do not assume an empty transcript during a short recording means the microphone failed.

If automatic copying is enabled, the finished text goes to the clipboard. Direct typing or automatic insertion can send text into another app; choose an editable target and check where the text landed.

Use the floating Orb for clipboard dictation

  1. Enable the Orb in VoicePad settings. On Android, allow Display over other apps when requested.
  2. Open the app where you want to write.
  3. Tap the Orb to record, then tap again to stop.
  4. Wait for processing and paste the result into your text field.

Move the Orb to a convenient position. Android’s long-press action can open the full app. The iOS guide does not document an equivalent floating overlay.

Improve the result

  • Use complete sentences and brief pauses.
  • Try spoken punctuation such as “comma” or “new paragraph”.
  • Reduce background noise and check the selected language.
  • Review names, amounts and specialist terms yourself.

To add to an earlier note, use Resume where your build provides it. To keep a new topic separate, start a new dictation.
