VoicePad Orb vs VoicePad Direct — which do I use?

Choose Orb when you want to copy and paste a finished dictation. Choose Direct when you want dictated text inserted into the app where you are writing.

Orb: dictate, review, paste

  1. Tap the floating Orb and speak.
  2. Tap again to stop and wait for transcription.
  3. Review the text, then paste it where you need it.

This is useful when you want to edit first, reuse the same text in several places, or control exactly when the text goes into another app.

Direct: dictate into a field

Direct sends text to an editable target. On Windows and macOS, the documented workflow uses the Orb followed by a click in your target field. On Android, the Help Center describes a VoicePad keyboard you select for the field.

This is useful for email drafts, messages and documents while staying in the app where you are writing.

Choose the platform-specific setup

  • Windows: Settings → Dictation → VoicePad Orb.
  • macOS: Settings → Float Orb; Direct needs Accessibility permission.
  • Android Orb: enable the overlay and allow Display over other apps.
  • Android Direct: enable and select the VoicePad system keyboard.
  • iOS: use in-app dictation and copy/paste unless your installed build documents another supported workflow.

If the target cannot accept text

Read-only documents, images and menus are not typing targets. Use clipboard copy and paste into an editable field instead.
