How do I set up Hot Word on Android?

Android Hot Word starts dictation when you say a wake phrase. It uses an on-device listener, so you can begin a note while your hands are busy.

Enable Hot Word

  1. Open VoicePad → Settings → Hot Word.
  2. Turn the feature on.
  3. Complete the speech model download if requested. The documented model is approximately 40 MB.
  4. Wait until setup finishes, then test the wake phrase in a quiet room.

Start and finish a note

Say the wake phrase configured or displayed in your app. Once recording starts, speak your note. Stop with the recording button, or use a supported stop command where available.

English commands include “Dictation stop”; German commands include “Diktat Stop”. Match your app’s language to the command language.

If it does not respond

  • Check that the model download completed.
  • Check microphone access and your language setting.
  • Move away from loud background speech or music and try again.
  • Turn Hot Word off and on to restart the listener.
  • If it works only while VoicePad is open, check Android’s battery restrictions for the app.

Privacy and control

Wake phrase detection runs locally. Turn Hot Word off when you do not want the app listening for a trigger. The feature is documented for Android; do not assume the same setup is available on iOS.
