How do I export my dictation history?
Export all your dictation history as a single file — no item limit, no cloud transfer, no time gate.
**Windows:**
1. Settings → Sessions → **Export History**
2. Choose location — saves as `.txt`
3. All entries exported with timestamps, durations, and full text
**Android:**
1. Open History sidebar (tap ☰)
2. Tap **Export All** button at the bottom
3. Choose share method — save to Files, send to email, etc.
**iOS:**
1. Open History sidebar (tap ☰)
2. Tap **Export All** button at the bottom
3. iOS Share Sheet opens — save to Files app, AirDrop, email
**What's in the exported file:**
- Every dictation as a separate entry
- Full text content (no truncation)
- Timestamp (date and time)
- Duration of recording
- Word count
- Source device (if multi-device)
**File formats:**
- **Windows:** Plain text (.txt). Easy to grep, easy to import into anything.
- **Mobile:** JSON or text depending on share target.
**Why export?**
- **Backup before clearing history** — see [How do I bulk-delete history?](#)
- **Importing to another VoicePad device** — see [Import from Desktop](https://voicepad.tech/help/#sync)
- **Data portability** — your data, your file, your choice
- **External analysis** — count your words, search across years, feed into AI tools
- **Migration to another tool** — if you ever leave VoicePad, you take your data with you
**Importing the exported file:**
The export-then-import flow works for moving data between devices:
1. Export on Windows or macOS
2. Transfer the file (email, USB, shared folder)
3. On Android: Settings → Sync → **Import from File**
4. On iOS: Settings → Sync → **Import from File** (uses Files app)
For full sync between devices, WiFi sync is easier — see [How do I sync between devices?](#).
