What is SubPad meeting transcription?

SubPad is VoicePad's **meeting transcription mode** — coming soon. It listens continuously, automatically identifies different speakers, and builds a structured dialogue transcript in real-time. All 100% offline on your PC. **Status:** In development. Not yet available in v2.1.0. **Founding members get access automatically when it ships — included in your license.** **How SubPad works:** 1. Press `Ctrl+Shift+S` to enter SubPad mode — the UI switches to meeting layout 2. Choose audio source: **Microphone** (in-person meeting) or **System Audio** (online call — captures speaker audio from your PC) 3. Press `Ctrl+Shift+R` to start recording — SubPad listens continuously 4. Text appears in real-time with speaker labels: `Speaker 1:`, `Speaker 2:`, `Speaker 3:` 5. Press `Ctrl+Shift+R` to stop — the full transcript saves to history with an emerald-border card **Export formats:** | Format | Best for | |--------|----------| | **TXT** | Plain text with labels and timestamps | | **SRT** | Subtitle format — import into video editors | | **VTT** | Web subtitles — for web video players | | **JSON** | Structured data — for developers and automation | **Auto-export:** Settings → SubPad → Auto-export → choose default format (TXT/SRT/VTT/JSON). Every SubPad session automatically saves to `Documents\VoicePad\SubPad\` with a timestamped filename. **Live stats during recording:** While SubPad is recording: `0:00 • 3 Speakers • 9 Segments • 87 words` — updates in real-time. **Why SubPad matters:** Current commercial transcription (Otter, Fireflies, Read AI) sends your meeting audio to cloud servers. Sensitive meetings — board discussions, client calls, medical consultations, legal depositions — should never go to the cloud. SubPad is the **first offline meeting transcription tool with speaker identification**. **Distinguishing SubPad recordings:** SubPad sessions save to history with a **teal/emerald border** so you can quickly spot meeting transcripts vs. regular dictations. They also support Export from the right-click menu (regular dictations don't). For status updates, watch the public roadmap.
