How do I use the AI Tools (Clean, Improve, Summary, Translate)?

VoicePad’s desktop AI Tools work with a local Ollama model. Use them to clean, rewrite, summarise or translate your text, or to ask a question. The Help Center documents Ollama support on Windows and macOS.

Set up once

  1. Install Ollama from ollama.com.
  2. Download a model, for example with ollama pull qwen2.5:0.5b in a terminal.
  3. Keep Ollama running and select the installed model in VoicePad’s AI settings.
  4. Check the connection, then test with a short paragraph.

Installation and model downloads need internet. Text processing runs locally after setup.

Choose the tool for your task

  • Clean: remove fillers and repetitions from a rough dictation.
  • Improve: rewrite for clearer wording and flow.
  • Summary: condense a longer text into its main points.
  • Translate: produce text in another language.
  • AI Prompt: send a question or instruction to your local model and read its response.

Review and save the result

Check names, figures and meaning before using AI output. On documented Windows builds, right-click the output and choose Save Improved Text to keep a separate history entry.

Use imported text too

The tools can process imported documents as well as dictation. If a model is slow, test a smaller one first. Keyboard shortcuts and available controls can vary by build.
