The offline grace period — what happens without internet?
VoicePad Pro works **fully offline**. Your dictations, your AI tools, your sync — none of it needs internet. But the license check itself uses the network. Here's exactly how it works.
**The mechanism — Pro Token:**
When you activate Pro on a device, VoicePad gets a **Pro Token** from our license server. That token proves your Pro status. The token is cached locally on your device.
**Token lifetime:** 7 days.
Every ~7 days, VoicePad silently refreshes the token in the background. You don't see this happen — it's invisible.
**What happens when there's NO internet:**
- **Days 0–7 (token still valid):** Everything works normally. You're Pro. No internet needed for dictation, AI tools, sync, anything.
- **Days 7–10 (token expired, offline grace period):** Token has technically expired but VoicePad **extends Pro for 3 extra days** so you're not penalized for being offline briefly. Trips, flights, retreats — covered.
- **Day 10+ offline:** Pro reverts to Free tier. You lose Pro features until you reconnect.
**The recovery:**
The moment any device with your license reconnects to internet, the token refreshes automatically. Pro reactivates within seconds. No re-activation needed.
**Practical implications:**
- ✅ Week-long flight or vacation without internet? No problem.
- ✅ Working in a SCIF / regulated environment with no internet? Just connect to internet once a week.
- ✅ Privacy-conscious user who blocks most network traffic? Whitelist VoicePad's license-check endpoint once.
- ❌ Never connecting to internet for more than 10 days? You'll lose Pro until you do.
**Why a token system at all?**
The token prevents license abuse (sharing one license across 100 devices). The grace period prevents legitimate users from being punished for short offline stretches. Together they balance fraud prevention with respect for your offline use case.
**To refresh the token manually:**
Open VoicePad → Settings → License → tap your email or "Refresh Token." Requires internet.
