Development update — Android and iPhone: audio retention and Reader playback

Audio retention and Reader playback let you revisit a saved dictation while controlling how long its recording stays on your device.

Recording controls

  • Choose a retention period: keep recordings for 1, 7 or 30 days in Settings > Storage. This applies to audio retained from the recording bar; keyboard dictations do not retain audio.
  • Listen in Reader: replay a saved recording while its audio remains available.
  • Clear audio separately: remove recordings while keeping note text. Deleting a note also removes its own audio, with safeguards for shared or in-use files.
  • Protect active recordings: shortening the retention period includes a grace period, and recording, playback and processing protect audio still in use.

Platform progress

  • Android: the implementation has completed a device walkthrough and is integrated in the mobile test build.
  • iPhone: playback and Clear audio have been checked on device. Note deletion with retained audio and the day-2 deletion check remain open.
  • macOS: retention is separate unfinished work.
